Fine Gael National Conference takes place in Ballyconnell tomorrow

The Regional organiser of Fine Gael in the West and North West is urging party members to attend this weekend’s annual conference of the party.

It’s taking place this weekend in the Sligo Leitrim constituency in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Ballyconnell.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will give his his first speech as leader to the party tomorrow night instead of Saturday due to the Ireland Denmark match.

Regional organiser and former Leitrim Councillor for the party Enda McGloin says it’s an opportunity for open discussion on a number of issues in particular Brexit:

And while he says they don’t expect an election anytime soon, the party is prepared.

In the Sligo Leitrim constituency where this weekend’s conference is taking place the appetite for running for the party is already good.

Senator Frank Feighan is the only one to have formally declared his intent to seek a nomination so far but sitting TD Tony McLoughlin, former TD John Perry and Leitrim Councillor John McCartin have all expressed interest.

Gerry Reynolds, a former TD and Senator has told Ocean FM this week he also has a ‘strong interest’ but he has yet to make up his mind.

Enda McGloin says conventions are already taking place but the local ones in the North West constituencies are unlikely before the New Year:
