Votes in Donegal Town mayoral election will be counted tonight



The new mayor of Donegal Town will be known tonight.

But the actual inauguration ceremony will not take place until a later date.

Voting for mayor of Donegal Town is continuing today at the John Bosco Centre until 7pm.

There are two candidates in the race, Vincent Callaghan and Pauric Kennedy.

Although it’s an honorary position, the successful candidate will play a key role in representing, promoting and lobbying for Donegal Town, as well as meeting visitors to the town, during a two-year term.

Ernan McGettigan is vice Chairman of Donegal Community Chamber, which organises the election.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, he outlined what will happen when voting closes this evening, starting with the counting of votes:
