Prepare now for fodder shortage, MacSharry urges

There are fears that farmers could be facing a fodder shortage this winter.

And a Sligo/Leitrim TD is now calling on the government to make preparations.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry says a number of farmers worried about fodder stocks have already been in touch with him.

He says the Department of Agriculture should engage with farmers now to ascertain the level of fodder available and, if necessary, get additional fodder from the UK.

Deputy MacSharry says a major cause of the problem is that cattle are already indoors because land is so wet.
