Event to celebrate fracking ban

With fracking having been banned in Ireland, a local group in the north west is now hoping to help other countries in their efforts to have the practice outlawed.

Ireland banned onshore fracking this summer, joining Germany, France and Bulgaria.

It followed a campaign that resulted in an anti-fracking Bill being introduced and passed in the Dail by Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Tony McLoughlin.

A major celebration of the success of that campaign is to take place in Leitrim this Saturday, which has been designated Global Frackdown Day.

Anti-fracking group Love Leitrim will be hosting a celebtration in the Rainbow Ballroom in Glenfarne.

Dervilla Keegan, is PRO with Love Leitrim.
