Two women and a 7 year-old boy killed on N17 crash at Claremorris



Gardaí are investigating a fatal crash on the main N17 Galway to Sligo road at Claremorris which has killed two women and a child.

The collission involving a car and a truck happened at Lisduff just south of Claremorris at around 12:30pm.

Two women (70s and 40s) and a boy (7), were pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was uninjured.

The road remains closed (5:30pm) at Claremorris and traffic from Sligo is being diverted to Ballyhaunis and motorists are asked to avoid the Claremorris Ballinrobe Junction.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094-9372080, The Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

Meanwhile, in Cork two tourists from the US died in a three vehicle crash on the Mallow Road at around 11 o’clock this morning.

The man and woman were both in their 60’s and were travelling with their partners.

A number of other people have been injured and are being treated in hospital.
