A local anti-water charges campaigner says valualuble taxpayers’ money will now have to be used to refund those who paid.
It’s estimated paying back the charges will cost €178m.
Sligo Solidarity Councillor Gino O Boyle says people should never have been asked to pay in the first place.
He claims some people, especially among the elderly, paid out of fear.
