There will be a homecoming reception for world champion Mona McSharry at the North Sligo Sports Complex in Grange this coming Sunday.
The 17-year-old, who swims with the Marlins Club in Ballyshannon, claimed Ireland’s first ever gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Indianapolis when breaking the Irish record in the 100 metres breaststroke event on Saturday.
Having claimed three medals at the European championships earlier in the summer, McSharry also claimed Ireland’s first ever bronze medal at the World Juniors when finishing third in the 50 metres event.
She was also part of the Irish mixed medley relay team that set a new Irish record when finishing sixth in the US, and she also narrowly missed out on a third medal in the final of the 200 metres on Monday.
Sunday’s event will take place at 6pm.
