Sligo manager Niall Carew is set to add Aidan Rooney to his backroom team.
The former Leitrim footballer will replace Keith Carty, who has opted out for next season after three years working with Kildare native Carew.
Rooney is the current manager of the Glencar/Manorhamilton senior team, and led them to the Leitrim county final last year.
Rooney also previously managed the Sligo minor team, guiding them to the Connacht final in 2015, where they lost out to Galway after a replay, having beaten Leitrim and Roscommon along the way.
Former Connacht Championship-winning Sligo captain Noel McGuire joined Carew’s backroom team last season as a replacement for Ronan Sweeney, but it has yet to be confirmed whether or not the Easkey clubman will return for next season.
Speaking to Ocean FM after his re-appointment, Carew said that they have plenty to improve upon for next year…
For the moment, Aidan Rooney’s sole focus will be on Glencar/Manor, who face leaders St Mary’s in the fifth and final round of group games in Ballinamore on Saturday, knowing a win will see them finishing top.
That could to a mouth-watering quarter-final against north Leitrim rivals Melvin Gaels.
The winners of Group B face the fourth-placed team in Group A, and that is the position currently occupied by the Kinlough men ahead of their game against group leaders Ballinamore on Saturday in Drumkeerin.
