MacSharry into finals at World Junior Swimming Championships



North Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry is into the finals of 200 metres breaststroke World Junior Championships in Indianapolis.

The final session starts after 11 o’clock tonight Irish time.

In her heat this afternoon, the 17-year-old clocked 2:30.07, and with a best time of 2:27.44 she is well in contention for a third medal.

She progresses to tonight’s final in fifth place overall.

McSharry set a new Irish record when becoming the first ever Irish gold medal winner at the World Junior Championships on Saturday when she won the 100 metres breaststroke.

The Marlins club member has also pocketed a bronze medal in the 50 metres breaststroke at the championships.
