Kiltyclogher appeal leads to enquiries from as far afield as America and Russia

There have been enquiries from people as far away as Russia and America about moving to live in the north Leitrim village of Kiltyclogher.

They’re all in response to an online campaign by local people in Kiltyclogher to attract more families into the area so as to ensure they do not lose one of the two teachers in their primary school.

Word about the great place Kiltyclogher is in which to live has now gone around the world.

And already people in the village itself are seeing the responses.

After one television report about the online campaign, there were almost 40,000 hits on its website.

Attracted by promises of peace, friendliness, broadband, education opportunities and general quality of life, people have been making enquiries from places such as Kansas in the U.S., from Russia, as well as from closer to home, such as from Wales.

Today, people from Wicklow are expected to visit to see the place for themselves while tomorrow, there will be visitors from Dublin.

Ciaran Rock, who moved in 1998 from Dublin to Kiltyclogher, where he has raised his family, is not only delighted he made the move but also with the interest in the current campaing to get more people to do likewise.

And he pointed that a major advantage for a rural area like Kiltyclogher is its access to high-speed broadband, enabling people, in some cases, to run businesses from their home.

Among those who recently made the move to Kiltyclogher earlier this year is 18-year old Aaron O Toole from Dublin.

In the case of one person from the U.S. who’s settled in Kiltyclogher, it’s as if things have come full circle.

Maura Weir is from Boston; her mother was from nearby Manorhamilton.

Now Maura runs The Cosy Corner’ pub in Kiltyclogher, literally welcoming the locals in the midst of their own place.
