IFA urges advisory approach rather than penalties in preventing pollution



The Irish Farmers Association says a more advisory approach is needed in ensuring farmers do not inadvertently pollute local waterways.

It follows an appeal by Donegal County Council, Inland Fisheries Ireland and the Environment Protection Agency to farmers to ensure that slurry does not enter waterways at this busy time of the year.

However, Thomas Cooney, Environmental spokesperson with the IFA, says that instead of sending in inspectors to farms, a more advisory role would be more welcome:
