‘Updated editions’ force parents to fork out for new books



A second-hand book shop owner in Sligo says many parents are forced to buy new school books because of updated and new editions required at schools.

Catherine Masiacz of the Red Book second-hand store in Sligo says that she has thousands of book that she cannot sell because they are an old edition.

She says that parents can save alot on second hand books that can cost almost €40 new.

They also sell second-hand uniforms which she says parents can save significantly on.

But speaking to Ocean FM News as people prepare their children for school next month again, she says some parents are disappointed when she tells them she cannot sell old editions:
