Palestinian children to take part in Manorhamilton Rangers matches

Fifteen Palestinian children will visit the North West tomorrow to take part in a football match organised by Manorhamilton Rangers Football Club.

The boys, all aged between 12 and 15 are from the Al-Helal Football Academy of Gaza and will include the Leitrim club as part of their tour of Ireland, which also includes visits to Dublin, Limerick and Galway.

The day is part of the Gaza Kids to Ireland initiative, which is now in its third year. Last year, the academy took on teams from Dublin, Wexford, Galway and Nenagh.

The team will take on a Manorhamilton Rangers representative side tomorrow, Tuesday at 2pm on the Manorhamilton Astro, before both sets of players take part in a mixed game which will see the Manor lads team up with their Gaza counterparts.

Underage coach with Manor Rangers, Jamie Murphy explains how the visit has come about.
