Sligo Council’s works on N16 at Lugatober will depend on funding, even when planning is done

Sligo County Council hopes to be ready to go ahead with a road works scheme at Lugatober on the N16 Sligo to Manorhamilton road by 2019 — but even then, progress will depend on funding available.

Leitrim County Council has been carrying out work for some time on its side of the N16, which is the main Sligo to Enniskillen route.

But some Leitrim councillors have been critical of the slow space of work on the Sligo side.

A major realignment of the entire route is being planne — this would be done by undertaking different projects along the way.

Thirteen possible routes for a realigned N16 have now been reduced to one preferred route.

And the idea is that this would be done on a phased basis.

As Sligo County Council Senior Engineer Emer Concannon explains, each of these minor schemes will take some time to plan.

And she points out that even when all planning for the scheme at Lugatober is complete by 2019, the start of actual work will depend on funding.
