New heart monitoring equipment for Letterkenny hospital

The government has signed off on €50,000 worth of funding to provide new heart monitoring equipment for Letterkenny University Hospital.

No cardiac rehab services had been available to outpatients at the hospital since the end of May because of breakages to the equipment, while a reduced service was only available to those who remained as inpatients.

Minister for Health Simon Harris agreed to provide the funds following a special motion debate in the Dáil this week, brought forward by Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher.

The Donegal Deputy said that he got no reply when he initially approached the HSE on the issue.

He said that although he is relieved to see that the full service will be restored in the coming weeks, he still wants to see the provision of a second cardio nurse at the hospital.
