McLoughlin says signing of fracking Bill is an historic event

A Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD says the signing of his anti-fracking Bill into law by President Michael D Higgins is an historic event that will have benefits long into the future.

The Bill, brought forward by Deputy Tony McLoughlin, bans onshore fracking in the Republic of Ireland.

It’s the culmination of a campaign that has lasted more than six years.

Deputy McLoughlin told Ocean FM News of his delight on receiving a call yesterday afternoon from Aras an Uachtarain to tell him the Bill had been signed into law.

He say’s yesterday was ‘a great day for the north west.’
