Majority of privately rented homes inspected in Sligo failed to meet standards



Only 12% of private rented accommodation in Sligo in 2015 was inspected while 87% of those that were failed to meet minimum standards.

That’s according to the housing authority Threshold who is calling for an NCT-style monitoring system for the sector.

New minimum standards came into effect over the weekend including new safety requirements and an obligation for carbon monoxide detectors to be in place.

In 2015, 87% of properties inspected in county Sligo failed the inspections, while no property failed in Donegal in the same year.

18% of the 59 properties in Leitrim were not up to standard that year.
