Sligo councillor ‘at a loss’ over the council not introducing the Long Term Property Incentive Scheme

A Sligo councillor says he is ‘at a loss’ to understand why Sligo County Council has not introduced the Long Term Vacant Property Incentive Scheme.

The scheme was established by the Government in an effort to encourage those who intend to set up a new business to occupy commercial premises in units that were previously occupied but have been vacant for over two years.

It provides an incentive for such people by lowering entry costs and providing grants related to the level of rates payable on the property.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Independent Councillor Declan Bree said it would help generate and support new business outlets by attracting increased footfall. He said this would benefit the town as a whole.
