Ballygawley Post Office’s future to be decided within six weeks

A decision on the future of Ballygawley Post Office is expected to be made within the next six weeks.

Closure has threatened the post office since the end of last year following the death of the postmaster.

Chairperson of the save Ballygawley Post Office Group, Thomas Walsh says the committee are positive that they can retain the facility. A decision is set to be made by An Post in late July, early August following a state review.

The lobby group has recently written to the An Post CEO David McRedmond in the hope that the contract for the post office will be extended or made permanent.

Mr Walsh, Fine Gael rep, says all people in the locality can do is remain patient.
