New tourism officer expected in Sligo soon

The tourism sector in Sligo is set to be given a boost soon with an announcement expected on the appointment of a new tourism officer in the county.

The county council currently has no such position in place, something that many feel holds back the potential of the sector in both the town and the county.

No date has yet been set for the post to be filled, but new Mayor of Sligo, Fine Gael’s Hubert Keaney told Ocean FM News that he is hopeful the appointment will take place soon.

He also noted that Sligo needs to work with neighbuoring counties if the area is to thrive as a tourism hotspot.
