Harkin says women often lose out on pensions



MEPs in Strasbourg have backed proposals this week to bring an end to the gender pension gap that exists in the European Union.

Ideas include providing credits for maternity, paternity or parental leave and to those who leave their job to care for the sick and elderly.

Independent MEP from Sligo Marian Harkin says women have smaller pensions, as they are the ones who often quit their jobs to become full-time carers:
