Work to start later this year on Tirconnail bridge in Donegal

Work will begin later this year on improvement works to the Tirconnail Bridge in Donegal Town, while it is hoped work on Fintra Bridge on the Killybegs to Kilcar road will also get underway in a similar time frame.

The Department of Transport has approved a maximum of €700,000 to be spent on enhancements to the Tirconnail Bridge.

While a further report is to be sought from Donegal County Council about upgrading proposals for the Fintra Bridge.

Independent Councillor Niamh Kennedy told Ocean FM News that the initial proposals for the proposed curve of the new Fintra bridge were not in line with Transport Infrastructure Ireland standards. She said that despite the necessary update of the proposal, she was confident works would still get underway this year.

Councillor Kennedy said the upgrade work to the bridge was vital to tourism in the county as it is a link between Sliabh Liag and the rest of the country.
