Councillor calls for ‘joined-up thinking’ to increase tourism bed nights



A Leitrim councillor says more joined-up thinking is needed to ensure that the tourists who visit counties like Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal stay in the area.

Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott says that we need to focus on increasing bed nights in the area.

He says up to 100,000 visit Glencar Waterfall in County Leitrim alone but he says those people need to be urged to stay and visit other facilities in the area.

He says there is also a concern that there is now no full-time tour guide for visits to the homestead of the 1916 leader Sean MacDiarmada in Kiltyclogher this year.

He says more needs to be done by working together with other counties:
