Woman with close Sligo connections killed in Manchester bombing

It’s emerged a 32-year old woman with close Sligo connections was among the victims of the Manchester bombing.

Kelly Brewster, from Sheffield in England, has been hailed as a heroine, having died as she tried to protect two others from the explosion.

Kelly’s grandmother, May Shannon, came from Culfadda.

Her great-aunt, Anne Shannon, retired in 1992 to Riverstown, Co Sligo, where she lived until she died there two years ago.

Kelly was attending the concert in Manchester with her sister, Claire Booth and her niece, Hollie, aged 11.

Her family described how she died shielding Claire and Hollie from the blast.

Both of them are recovering in hospital from their injuries.

Riverstown native John Kelly, who’s now living in Letterkenny, and who’s a second cousin of Kelly’s father Kevin Brewster, has been telling Ocean FM News of the County Sligo connections.
