Fine Gael councillor says early declarations of support made leadership hustings less interesting



A Sligo councillor feels the decision early on by so many senior Fine Gael members to declare who they will vote for in the leadership contest has led to a flatness in the race.

Sinead Maguire is the only Fine Gael Councillor in the region yet to decide if she will vote for Leo Varadkar or Simon Coveney.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Councillor Maguire says she hasn’t attended any of the hustings, but will continue to speak to local party members before making her decision

She says that because many TDs backed their candidate so early, this has led to a lot of disillusionment among grass-roots members who felt TDs’ votes held too much weight for their own votes to count:
