At last, anti-fracking Bill reaches what’s hoped is final Dail hurdle

The Bill by Sligo/Leitrim TD Tony McLoughlin to ban fracking is expected to be finally passed in the Dail today — or by tomorrow morning at the very latest.

There had been expectations the Bill would have passed last week but this did not happen because of debate on proposed amendments.

However, discussion on the Bill in the Dail is due to start again about now.

When the Bill is finally passed, it will be a major victory for those campaigning for years to ban fracking.

Among them are members of Love Leitrim, more than 20 of whom will be in the Dail this morning for what they hope will be the final debate.

Johnny Gogan is the chairman of Love Leitrim. A few minutes ago, he spoke to Ocean FM News from Buswell’s Hotel, beside Leinster House.
