Ras brings business boost to Bundoran

Bundoran is in for a major business boost with the An Post Ras coming to the town this afternoon.

Hotels and B&Bs in the town and surrounding area will benefit from more than 500 bed nights as a result of the major cycle race going through the region.

The third stage of the race left Newport in Mayo this morning.

It passed through west Sligo via Enniscrone, onto Dromore West and Ballisodare arriving in Sligo town around quarter past one.

The pelloton is expected in Tullaghan, co. Leitrim around 2pm before entering Bundoran just after two o’clock for the stage final.

Traffic restrictions will be in place in the town with rolling road closures between two and four pm.

But Shane Smith, Tourism Officer in Bundoran says it will be a great spectacle and will bring significant business to the town:

Meanwhile, a community activist in the town says that the retention of the blue flag yesterday for Bundoran is good for the ongoing tourism trade in the wider area.

Sinn Fein’s Mick McMahon has been reacting to the confirmation by An Taisce yesterday that Bundoran is one of four beaches in the south Donegal area alone to retain the status:
