Campaigner welcomes new round of public consultation on greenways

Greenway campaigners are welcoming a new round of public consultations announced by the Minister for Transport.

Shane Ross wants submissions before July 14th on the development of a new strategy for greenways.

Campaigners have been calling for a greenway to be developed the entire length of the unused railway line from Athenry in Galway, through Mayo and onto Collooney in Sligo.

However, other campaigners have been seeking to have the line reopened and used as a railway.

Greenways allow cyclists and walkers use unused railway routes, creating a major tourism and recreational attraction.

Greenway campaigner John Mulligan told Ocean FM News he is delighted to hear the minister announce the new consultation process.
