McLoughlin wants temporary treatment plant at Lough Talt

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling for a temporary water treatment plant to be installed at Lough Talt in West Sligo in order to guarantee safe drinking water for local communities.

Fine Gael’s Tony McLoughlin says the current plant poses a risk to public health.

Sligo County Council has recently refused construction of an interim plant on the lake, a decision upheld by An Bord Pleanála, as a result of the discovery of a rare snail in the area.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Deputy McLoughlin said it is crucial that the 13,000 people in West and South Sligo supplied from Lough Talt are provided with a reliable source of drinking water.
