Council cathaoirleach praises progress of works on Sligo Town water supply



Irish Water says works on the Sligo City Water Main Rehabilitation and Pearse Road Sewer Network Project is expected to be completed by May 2018.

The projects involve the replacement and rehabilitation of ageing water mains, installation of new sewers and replacement of all service connections and is funded by Irish Water and Sligo County Council with a total investment of €6.8 million.

To date, works in Cleveragh Road, Tonaphubble Lane, John Street and Smiths Row have been completed.

Works are ongoing on JFK Parade with road closures planned there until May 19.
The aim is to provide residents and businesses with improved services by reducing leakages, improving the water quality, as well as providing financial savings by reducing maintenance costs.

Some of the works that are due to be carried out are on O’Connell Street, Teeling Street, Pearse Road, Castle Street and Union Street as well as many others.

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Hubert Keaney, visited the site and said that he was very happy with the progress being made.
