McLoughlin wants more money for CCTV in towns and villages

A Sligo/Leitrim TD has called for increased funding and a speedy rollout of the CCTV scheme for rural towns and villages to fight crime.

Fine Gael Deputy Tony McLoughlin told the Dail yesterday that he has seen the benefits of the CCTV scheme at first hand in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim.

Community groups across the country can now apply for a new grant to set up CCTV systems.

Under the scheme, eligible groups can apply for grant-aid of up to 60 percent of the total capital cost, up to a maximum of 40 thousand euro.

In response to Deputy McLoughlin, Tánaiste and Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said she hopes to be able to increase the grants available.
