Leitrim anti-fracking campaigner says some uncertainty still remains

An anti-fracking campigner is claiming nothing has really changed as a result of yesterday’s Oireachtas committee report which says it would be irresponsible to allow fracking to go ahead in Ireland.

Aideen McLoughlin of the Love Leitrim campaign group, welcomed the report of the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment, which said it was not convinced that fracking could go ahead without having harmful effects on the environment and on human health.

She was among those who attended the launch of the report yesterday in Leinster House.

However, she says there are still amendments to be made to be report and she thought these would have been made before it went to the committee.

She therefore feels there is still uncertainty.
