People in an area near Dromahair in North Leitrim are asked to be on the lookout for those causing damage to telephone cables and wires.
The incidents have been occurring for a few weeks in the area between Leckaun and Dromahair, and is believed to be the result of thieves looking for copper in the wires.
It has resulted in some residents in the area being without telephone service.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Frank Dolan says that despite most people now having mobile phones, many in rural areas still rely on their land line.
