Councillors say Tenant Purchase Scheme is not ‘user’ friendly

Councillors in Sligo have been telling the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal that a scheme to help local authority tenants buy out their houses is not user friendly.

The councillors made the point to Minister Damien English during his visit to Sligo County Council this week.

They particularly singled out the Tenant Purchase Scheme, which requires that tenants have an income of €15,000.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Minister English says his departemnt is looking at the Tenant Purchase Scheme to see if it can be better designed.

But he insisted there was a good reason for the €15,000 income requirement.
