New timetables for Sligo schools from September

Secondary Schools in Sligo will see major changes to their timetables beginning next September.

In line with changes to the Junior Cycle, all classes will be finishing early on Fridays and starting earlier each morning.
Summerhill College, The Ursuline College, Sligo Grammer School and The Mercy College in Sligo Town will all see major changes to their school timetable implemented next September.

The 2017/2018 school year will see all four schools introduce an early finish on a Friday with class ending at 1.20pm each week.

This is in line with changes to the Junior Cycle outlined by the department of education.

Schools have been advised to ensure class times are no less than 40 minutes in duration and this has necessitated a change in school hours.

All schools will still meet the required 28 hours of in-class time per week.

Ocean FM has contacted the other second level schools in the North West region and many have yet to decide what timetable changes will be made.

When contacted the Department of Education said the changing of hours in line with Junior cycle changes is a matter for each individual school subject to each school meeting the minimum hours required.
