Cloghogue N.S. in danger of losing teacher due to 50 year old rule



A Sligo/Leitrim TD has told the Dail that a school in his area is in danger of losing a teacher because of a 50-year old rule on pupils eligibility for school transport.

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon says the issue is affecting Cloghogue National School, just off the N4 Sligo/Dublin road at Castlebaldwin, Co Sligo.

Deputy Scanlon says the number of pupils in the school are falling and if it is to have school transport to bring pupils to the school, it needs a minumin of 10 eligible students who have to be more than two miles away.

He told the Taoiseach in the Dail yesterday afternoon that an overall look needs to be taken at the rules on school transport:
