Planning sought for 3 sewage plants in Sligo

Sligo County Council has received planning applications from Irish Water which would see three wastewater treatment plants in the county upgraded.

The utility wants to undertake works at plants in Ballymote, Collooney and Ballinacarrow.

Sewage treatment is the process of removing contaminants from wastewater usually coming from households.

Plans are in place by Irish Water to upgrade three of the services in Sligo.

Three separate planning applications have been made to improve wastewater treatment plants in Ballymote, Collooney and Ballinacarrow in Sligo.

Each plant is in line for new inlet works, stormwater holding tanks and a forward feed pumping station.
A new administration and control building would also be provided on each site.

The Collooney plant would also see works take place on an existing sludge holding tank and odour control equipment.

Roadway resurfacing and other ancillary works are also included as part of the applications.

No spokesperson for Irish Water was available to speak to Ocean FM until after the application phase of works.
