Two Sligo natives are to be honoured as part of the County Sligo Social and Benevolent Association of New York annual Dinner Dance tonight.
Patrick Joseph Cunney from Tourlestrane is the event’s guest of honour while Helen Mahoney from Grange will be awarded the John Foody Humanitarian Award.
Karen Burke Fitzgibbons the daughter of Tubbercurry natives Martin Burke and Annie Kennedy-Burke will receive the Sligo person of the Year award at the 126th annual dinner dance.
Sligo cathaoirleach Hubert Keaney and Chief Executive Ciaran Hayes will be in attendance at the dinner dance which takes place in Queens.
Colette Connolly is the spokesperson for the Sligo Association and she told Ocean FM why the award winners were chosen.
