Tributes to the late Tommy Lavin, former Sligo councillor



Tributes are being paid to the late Tommy Lavin, a former Fine Gael councillor in County Sligo who has passed away.

Mr. Lavin was co-opted into Sligo County Council in the Ballymote electoral area in 1960 and he held the seat until his retirement before the 1999 local elections.

He served as the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council in 1984 and 1992.

He also ran twice in the General Election in Sligo Leitrim for Fine Gael in 1982 and 1987 but was unsuccessful.

The Cathoirleach of Sligo County Council Hubert Keaney and Sligo Leitrim TD Tony McLoughin are among those paying tribute to the late Mr Lavin.

Deputy McLoughlin says the Taoiseach Enda Kenny was a close friend and just visited him in the North West hospice last Friday:
