Public meeting to be held on the future of south Donegal fire stations

A public meeting on the future of two fire stations in South Donegal is to take place in Ballyshannon tomorrow night.

It comes as calls have been made for Donegal County Council to stand over their commitment to provide a new fire station in both Bundoran and Ballyshannon.

Fine Gael councillor Barry O’Neill has called for the council to provide both towns with a new fire station under the Capital Programme agreed in early 2016.

It emerged towards the end of last year that fire personnel in Bundoran and Ballyshannon want no works undertaken if it means one town loses out on the service.

The public meeting will take place in Dorrians Hotel at 8pm on Wednesday evening and members of the public are invited to attend and voice their concerns.

An independent consultant is expected to look into the feasibility of having two new stations and councillor O’Neill says the previous council decision needs to be taken into account.
