Pieta House for the North West to open next month

Pieta House is to open its first North West centre by the end of next month.

The organisation which already has centres in Galway, Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Tipperary and Kerry has identified the North West, the Midlands and the South East as areas most in need of the service.

In April, Letterkenny will become the base for its North West service as part of its aim to have a centre within 100km of every person in the country.

Pieta House is a support service for those at risk of or who have been affected by suicide and it aims to support people in crisis by providing freely accessible, services.

Director of Advocacy, Tom McEvoy says it’s come about mainly because of the drive of the local community in Donegal:

Mr. McEvoy also says outreach services could operate from counties like Leitrim and Sligo as part of the expansion of Pieta House in the North West.

Currently the closest Pieta House service for those in Leitrim, Donegal and Sligo is based out of Tuam in Co. Galway.

He told Ocean FM they hope to be able to branch out throughout the region.
