Harkin says recent ruling against Ireland on VRT shows relevance of EU



A North West MEP says the recent ruling against Ireland on VRT is a good example of the importance of the EU.

Marian Harkin is addressing TY students at the Mercy College in Sligo today on the role and relevance of the EU.

Last week, the Advocate General in Europe ruled against Ireland for charging full VRT on vehicles being temporarily brought into the republic and said the charge must be proportional.

The ruling stems from a complaint from a Donegal man Ryan Stewart from Buncrana and it will now go to the European Court of Justice for approval.
