St Attracta’s crowned Connacht junior champions



St Attracta’s have claimed the Connacht Junior A Championship title for the first time.

Tuesday’s commanding 2-8 to 1-6 defeat of Tuam’s St Jarlath’s College at the Connacht GAA Centre means the Tubbercurry school have claimed a junior league and championship double.

They can achieve a similar feat at senior level on Saturday when they face St Colman’s of Claremorris in the Connacht Senior A final in the Connacht GAA Centre at 3pm.

There was disappointment for Sligo’s Ursuline College in the ladies U14 B Connacht final, however.

Leitrim’s Carrick-on-Shannon Community School instead claimed the title with a 3-2 to 1-6 victory.

In soccer, there was disappointment for Summerhill College in yesterday’s Connacht Senior Cup final in Castlebar.

The Sligo side lost out by one goal to nil against Rice College of Westport in the decider.

And in basketball, St Catherine’s from Killybegs lost out to Castlerea Community School in yesterday’s All-Ireland Girls U16 C League final in Tallaght.

The Roscommon school claimed a 40 points to 30 win at the National Basketball Arena.

Andrea Fuery, Orla Carberry and Meabh Dorrian top-scored for the Donegal school.
