NWRA director believes region can craft a vision for 2040

A director of the Northern and Western Regional Assembly says the area now has the opportunity to put a strong case to government to show it can craft a vision for its future for the next 20 years.

The assembly covers eight western and north western counties.

Director David Minton was speaking to Ocean FM News after Minister Simon Coveney’s visit to Sligo for the regional launch of the new Ireland 2040 National Planning Framework.

Mr Minton says the event focussed the attention not only of a senior government minister but also some of his policy makers on the capabilities and potential of the region.

He says there’s now an opportunity for the eight counties to advocate for infrastructure, roads, electrical and gas networks and access to the marine economy.

The plan is meant to replace the old National Spatial Strategy . . .and Mr Minton says we need to learn from the mistakes of that plan.
