Chris MacManus selected to fill vacant Sinn Fein seat on Sligo Council

Former Sligo Borough Council member Chris MacManus has been selected by Sinn Fein to fill the vacancy on Sligo County Council.

The vacancy was caused by the retirement of long serving councillor Sean MacManus and it is expected Chris will be unanimously co-opted at the next council meeting.

A statement from Sinn Fein Sligo said he was the only candidate put forward by several party branches in the council area and was proposed at convention by current councillor Thomas Healy and seconded by chairperson Stephen Conway.

Chris MacManus previously served fifteen years as a Councillor on Sligo Borough Council and ran as a candidate for the party in last year’s General Election.

Speaking to Ocean FM he said he believes his nomination is a recognition of a number of different factors.
