Confirmed government contingency Brexit plans would include full customs border

The Finance minister has confirmed that locations in Donegal, Leitrim and Cavan are being looked at for customs checkpoints in the case of a return to a hard border once Britain leaves the EU.

Details of a contingency plan being put together by revenue commission officials were printed in the Irish Examiner newspaper today.

The plan is in stark contrast to the public statements from government about ensuring a soft border between the North and Republic of Ireland.

Political editor with the newspaper Daniel McConnell told Ocean FM that the plans would lead to a full hard customs border between the North and South.
