Rovers to play in next season’s Scottish Challenge Cup

Sligo Rovers will be one of the first League of Ireland teams to play in the Scottish Challenge Cup.

The FAI yesterday confirmed that both the Bit O’ Red and Bray Wanderers will take part in next season’s competition, which features teams from outside the Scottish Premiership, as well as U20 teams from the top-flight.

Rovers and Bray finished just outside the European spots last season.
This year’s Scottish Challenge tournament also included two clubs each from Wales and Northern Ireland.

On the field, John Russell got the only goal of the game as Rovers beat Finn Harps 1-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Showgrounds last night.

It was a good display from the visitors, but with three teams being relegated from the top-flight this season, Harps boss Ollie Horgan says they face a tough challenge…
