Many parts of west Donegal simply ‘don’t see’ a Bus Eireann service all year



A Donegal TD says there are many parts of west Donegal that simply ‘don’t see’ a Bus Eireann service all year.

Fianna Fail TD Pat the Cope Gallagher has been reacting to the all-out strike which is planned by the unions representing workers at Bus Eireann on the 20th of this month.

The company plans to withdraw premium payments from that day.

Yesterday Ray Hernan the CEO of Bus Eireann said payroll accounts for 40% of the companies costs.

While an all out strike this time round would not affect school transport, the unions have not ruled such action out down the line.

The competition from private bus operators has also been cited as the company an a serious challenge for its business on busier routes.

However, Deputy Gallagher says while he has great sympathy for the Bus Eireann workers, the fact is that private operators have brought a whole new life to many rural areas especially for young people:
