Proposal for new national park in north Leitrim to go to Minister

A proposal to have a portion of North Leitrim designated as a national park is to go to the office of the Minister of State for Regional Economic Development.

Fianna Fail Councillor Justin Warnock says he is disappointed more progress has not been made on the idea by Leitrim County Council since he suggested it last year.

He wants to have the area from Tullaghan to Tarmon and from Glenfarne to Glencar declared a national park.

He says it would be similar to Snowdonia, the Yorkshire Dales or the Lake District in England.

He comments come after he sought an update at this week’s meeting of Manorhamilton Municipal District.

He told Ocean FM what he now hopes will be achieved by his proposal going to Minister Ring’s department:
