A Donegal TD says the implementation of a complete group water scheme subsidy would ensure those residents would not be paying twice for their water.
A cross party Dail committee was told by representatives from the departments of Finance and Housing that 25 million euro would cover 100% of the cost of all group schemes.
Currently rural homes on a scheme are faced with significant costs of running treatment plants and piping water and could be faced with having to pay for services a second time through general taxation.
Independent TD Thomas Pringle is a member of the committee on future funding of domestic water services.
